The best creative tools to use

Design Tips

May 29, 2022

You don’t need a fancy studio to be creative — but having the right tools definitely helps. Whether you’re sketching out ideas, building brand materials, or collaborating with a team, the tools you choose can make your process smoother, faster, and way more fun.

Here are some of our favorite creative tools — for professionals and anyone who just loves to make good ideas happen.

1. Adobe Creative Cloud

It’s the industry standard for a reason. Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign cover everything from image editing to layout design to logo work. If you’re serious about design, this is a must.

2. Canva

Need something fast, clean, and easy to share? Canva is a go-to for quick graphics, social posts, or simple templates. It’s great for non-designers — and even pros use it when speed matters.

3. Procreate (for iPad)

If you’re into drawing, sketching, or concept art, Procreate turns your iPad into a sketchbook with superpowers. It’s intuitive, powerful, and fun — perfect for creative play or professional illustration.

4. Notion or Trello

Creativity needs organization. Tools like Notion or Trello help you map out ideas, plan projects, and track progress — especially useful when juggling multiple design pieces or marketing campaigns.

5. Miro or Figma for Collaboration

These tools are great for brainstorming, feedback, and team design work. With real-time updates and visual boards, it feels like a creative whiteboard — just digital.

6. Good Old Pen & Paper

Sometimes, the best tool is the simplest one. Quick sketches, handwritten notes, wild ideas — they all start somewhere. And sometimes that somewhere is a well-loved notebook.

It’s Not About the Tool — It’s How You Use It

At Stargate Design, we use a mix of analog and digital tools depending on the project. The key is finding what works for you. Whether you’re planning a product launch, redesigning a form, or building your brand from scratch, the right tools help your creativity shine.

Need help turning ideas into reality — no matter what tools you use? We’ve got you.
